Sad News

Yesterday, we learned that a friend of mine passed away. She leaves behind her husband, her 8 year old daughter, and her 10 year old son. Our girls are in the same class. Her daughter plays on my soccer team and is in Girl Scouts with Alex. I am having a really hard time wrapping my mind around this tragedy. I keep envisioning my last interaction with her and how her daughter is only half way through her mother's day project at school. I can hear her voice cheering for her daughter on the sidelines of a rainy soccer game in September. She was in charge of our trophies at the end of the season and picked out these hilarious bobble headed, pony-tailed girl ones.

This loss hits close to home. There is this camaraderie between mothers. No matter what's going on in our lives, or how different we are, we are mothers together. This fact unites us. Some work full time and some stay home. All of us have different parenting styles. We watch out for each other's children and wave knowingly as we pass on the road. Spoken or unspoken, we support one another.

On Thursday, we lost one of our own. A mom. An everyday hero. This loss just screams of injustice.

I feel helpless. All I can think of is to bring food. Well, that and pray. Please pray for this family, that they would sense God's divine comfort and presence....

  1. I can't get them out of my mind either. I drove to my parents house after school on Friday. I walked in the door and hugged my mom. Hard. And sobbed. How lucky we are to have our mother's, feel their love, have their arms around us, know they are HERE.xoxo

  3. When I became a mom I felt like I had joined the biggest club in the world. My heart is so sad. Everybody needs a mom. Everyday that I get to be a mom is an amazing gift. I will keep this family i my prayers. I also pray that you and Alex and the rest of your family can show love and support. I love you guys!

  4. Thanks so much for this post and specifically the comments on the camaraderie between mothers. I was thinking of your comments today as I noticed a woman behind me at the Starbucks Drive-thru. She was alone in a minivan and I thought this was my opportunity to "pay it forward" and buy her coffee. Someone did that to me one time and it brightened my day. What I didn't expect was that it would brighten my day again, but this time on the other side. :)
