Nuggets of Wisdom from Hannah Montana
This was the year our eight year old blossomed into a fan of the pop princess, Miley Cyrus, AKA Hannah Montana.
Mike and I kept her budding fanship at bay for as long as we could. We didn't have anything personal against Miley, or her mullet adorned daddy Billy Ray (best known for that line dancing classic "Achey Breaky Heart"). I actually had never heard her music, or watched her show on Disney channel. I lumped Hannah into the same category as Brittney, Paris and every other child star turned poor role model. Instead, I pointed our sweet girl to role models like Mia Hamm, soccer star, and Rosa Parks, champion of civil rights.
We were worn down slowly. First came the birthday party invitations. Three separate parties, all Hannah Montana themed. Next she started watching Hannah Montana on Disney once a week. Then, she asked Santa for the CD. Finally, Alex announced that someone at church told her Miley Cyrus loved Jesus. She had us. Out of excuses, we (Santa) bought her her first Hannah/ Miley CD.
Here's what we've learned from Hannah:
"Life's what you make it, so let's make it rock."
"Everybody makes mistakes...
everybody has those days.....
everybody knows what, what I'm talkin' 'bout.......
everybody gets that way"
"I'm unusual
Not so typical
Way too smart to be waiting around
Tai chi practicing
Snowboard champion
I could fix the flat on your car
I might even be a rock star"
All in all, not such bad messages. Besides Hannah/ Miley really does wear the CUTE-est boots in her new 3-D movie (sigh).

ReplyDelete"You want to be known
You want to be heard
And know you are beautiful
You have so much to give
Some change you wanna live
So shout it out and let it show
You have a diamond inside of your heart
A light that shines bright as the stars
Don't be afraid to be all that you are
You'll be fine"
Unfortunately I know her songs a little too well for my liking :)
You fought the good fight, Jodie. Some things you just have to surrender to.
