Merry-go-round

These days, I'm busier than usual. I know, I know.......my hectic schedule is a common topic for my blog. Bear with me....

The Howerton family has been back on the crazy merry-go-round again this past week. The dizziness that has ensued has made me disoriented and has maliciously smacked me with total writer's block. The problem with riding a merry-go-round for too long is that nothing looks clear. Everything is blurry and jumbled, like you suddenly need glasses.

This week, there have been moments, though, clear nuggets of time that I could hold in my hand, that gave me momentary reprieve from the nausea. When I was putting my kids to bed a few nights ago, the merry go round momentarily stopped.

"Good night, Alex. I love you."

"Good night, mom. I love you, too."

"OK, sweetie, see you in the morning."

"No, mom, You can't go yet. You have to lay here and snuggle with me for 3 whole minutes. I'm going to watch the clock."

"Al, honey, it's late. I still have to go get the.......and fold the......"

"That's enough, mom. Lay here. Now."

".......OK."

Those three minutes saved my week. My 8 year old had the wisdom to make me stop and just be. I ended up staying for 30. The laundry was still there and lots of e-mail went unanswered and dishes were left in the sink and I didn't blog one word. I'm not praying for more moments of connectedness and clarity, though.

They happen all the time. I'm just too busy to notice. What I'm praying for is the eyes to see them and the wisdom to jump off the merry-go-round.
