We've got Goats

I have a long list of life experiences I most likely never would have had if we had remained planted in the stucco suburbs of Southern California.

I probably never would have done a triathlon. I never would have learned to compost. I would never have learned to rejoice when the weather permits the wearing of flip-flops. I would have never found certain friendships and meaningful community. I would have never gotten to wake board in the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

Today, I added a new "I would have never..." to my list.

I would have never rented four goats.

No joke. This Southern California girl has gone country. As an alternative to paying someone lots of money to remove our blackberry bushes, which have crept closer and closer to the house in the last few years, I rented goats to eat them. If you are not from the Northwest, I'm sure you're wondering, "Why are the blackberries such a problem? I would love to have fruit growing in my backyard! " Blackberries are a WEED up here. They are hard to kill and take over everything. They are hard to remove because of the knife-like thorns protruding out of every vine.

So, we got us some goats. Daisy, Isabelle, Alpie, and Granny .A bonus is that they fertilize for free.

  4. That is so funny. My kids would be in heaven.
We have 2 pairs of goats in our neighborhood that the city uses for the same reason.

  5. You could make some money on those blackberries here in Iowa... a teeny tiny container was for sale the other day for $4.00! I almost died. My kids wanted them, and I told them they had to wait until we went "home" for a visit!
